Who We Are

The Youth Services Bureau (YSB) Foundation’s Youth Cabinet is a group of committed Ottawa youth who come together to raise awareness and much needed funds for programs offered by the YSB that serve other youth in their community.

Areas of focus

Housing

The Youth Cabinet is dedicated to supporting youth who are homeless. Over the past 10 years, the Youth Cabinet members and their peers have raised more than $200,000 through YSB’s past signature event, Stay Up Ottawa (formally SleepOUT for Youth). Our cabinet members take leadership roles in this major annual event. Roles include: Team Captains for their schools, Event Volunteers, MC, and active fundraisers.

Youth Cabinet members have led fundraising campaigns in their schools, and also done gift card, cleaning supply & toilettry drives.  The Youth Cabinet is a youth-led fundraising team for the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa. Their efforts are real and lasting!

Mental health

We all know someone who has struggled with mental health. In Canada, 1 in 5 youth will experience a mental health issue. YSB is a valuable community service for all youth who are in need of someone to talk to. With a chat line, Walk-in Clinic and Mobile Crisis service, the Youth Cabinet members want to do what they can to support youth who may need help. The Youth Cabinet has run information sessions in their schools, coffee houses, and game events to help raise awareness and funds for YSB Mental Health services. They’re proud to be youth helping youth.

If you are interested in joining the Youth Cabinet please consider the following things:

• Are you a high school student?
• Can you participate in monthly meetings
• Are you able to make Youth Cabinet activities a priority?
• Are you comfortable taking the lead on projects/activities at your school or in your community?
• Do you have an interest in fundraising and events?
• Are you passionate about youth homelessness, youth mental wellness and other issues faced by youth in our community?
