The Board of Directors of the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa (YSB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Michel Guilbeault as Interim CEO of YSB. Effective Thursday, March 7, 2024, Mr. Guilbeault will assume responsibilities from YSB’s Acting CEO, Wes Richardson. As part of our strategy to appoint a permanent CEO, Mr. Guilbeault’s term as interim CEO is a pivotal step in our transition process.
Mr. Guilbeault has served as a member of YSB’s Board of Directors, and brings with him 25 years of leadership experience with non-profit organizations, along with municipal government and higher education. His background includes time as Vice President at the National Capital YMCA, Associate Vice President, Student Life at the University of Ottawa, and as a manager at the City of Ottawa.
“I’m very energized to be joining YSB’s leadership, and to lead YSB’s wide-ranging and dedicated staff team,” said Mr. Guilbeault. “I feel privileged to serve an organization which impacts the lives of so many in our community, every single day. Whether it’s to find jobs, return to school, learn life skills, find shelter, choose a better path, or feel hope – the YSB team is there for Ottawa families,” finished Mr. Guilbeault.
“Michel has been a strong advocate for supporting YSB staff, and has spoken about his passion for connection, clear communication, and cohesion,” said Tanya Gracie, Chair of the YSB Board of Directors. “This is an opportunity for YSB to be led by somebody who not only has years of relevant experience, but who comes to us with lived experience of youth homelessness, a knowledge set that we value greatly. I’d like to thank the entire staff team of YSB, about 350 dedicated individuals, who have each put in the work and empathy to help young people in our community,” continued Ms. Gracie. “We’re appreciative of everyone’s ongoing dedication, including Wes Richardson, Kim Fenn, and Kathryn Owens, Acting CEO and Acting Senior Directors, respectively.
Mr. Guilbeault will begin his term immediately, as of March 7, 2024, and will continue until the permanent CEO is in place. The Board of Directors’ search committee expects that the permanent CEO will be in place by September 2024. Welcome Michel!
